5 Awesome, Budget-Friendly Accent Wall Ideas
Making design changes in your home can be a daunting task, especially when it’s more than just buying a few colourful pillows for your sofa. You’re not alone! What do you do with that blank wall in your bedroom, or how can you make your bathroom a prettier space? If you’re having a tough time figuring out what’s ‘missing’ or what you can do to revamp a room, here are some ideas to jazz up your home.
These 5 accent wall ideas are easy to do yourself (or with someone), affordable, and a great way to add some depth and intrigue in your home. And you can accomplish them over a weekend!
1. Have you ever thought of using 3D Panels?
Instead of buying porcelain tiles and hiring a professional to install them, this is a great alternative to bring a cool textural 3D element to a room! I absolutely love these 3D wall panels below that remind me of breeze blocks (very Palm Springs!) and bring a playfulness to a blank wall. They are easy to install, too.
2. Wallpaper is back, and no longer ugly.
Lots of people associate wallpaper with ugly, dated patterns and colours that are a headache to remove, but there’s no need for those concerns these days! There are so many amazing products and patterns out there that suit every style – large florals, geometrics, tropicals, animals, and even vintage patterns. As for application (and removal, for that matter), there are beautiful peel-and-stick wallpapers and wall decals that are easy to remove and change up whenever you want to – also great for those who rent!
3. Make a painted wall more exciting with a pattern.
Paint is typically everyone’s first thought for creating an accent wall in a room because it is an easy change and can quickly bring a splash of colour to a space. Instead of just painting a wall a solid colour, you can make the wall a little bit more interesting by taping a pattern prior to painting or creating a nice layout of stripes (like the beautiful foyer wall here!)
4. Easily add that rustic touch with Wood Panels.
Farmhouse is big right now (thank you, Chip and Joanna), especially that coveted shiplap wall! If you want to bring this rustic element into your home but don’t have the tools, time, or budget, you can order peel-and-stick wood panels that are quick and simple to install and get that rustic wood paneled wall you’ve been dreaming of. I installed these with Mickey for one of our homeowners in season 2 of Worst to First, and it turned out amazing!
5. Yes, please to Board and Batten!
I love the look that board and batten brings to a room! It’s such a great way to elevate the sophistication of a room and add character to the space (and do it on a budget!) It’s basically just putting wood or mdf strips up on your wall, caulking them, and painting them. Easy peasy! Check out this awesome DIY below.
