Today I went thrifting, with my mom in my heart.
She was an avid thrifter, something that makes me feel extra connected to her as I’m one, too.
Today I went thrifting and found something special. I had already planned it in my schedule to pop into a thrift store or two, and when I realized it also happened to be the day my mom passed away seven years ago, I just knew I was going to find something to bring home.
She loved thrifting - I think both for the hunt and for her own form of self-care. She would drag all the kids along with her on her shopping trips, and I am grateful she did as it’s something I can do now that makes me feel closer to her. I also happen to love doing it, so that makes it extra special.
I found a small, gold bird pin that spoke to me. It reminded me of my mom because I initially thought it was a dove. Once I got home and looked at it a bit more I realized it’s actually a swallow - an omen of good fortune for the new journey ahead.
I can’t help but think that my mom had some part in me finding that pin, an intimation I’m on the right path as I start a new adventure in 2022.
Hello! Catherine here. :)
I’m a Vancouver-based interior designer and love all things creative! I’ll be sharing things that inspire me, posting design tips and DIY projects, chatting about all kinds of topics, and hopefully inspiring some people to make little changes at home to create an environment that is functional, beautiful, and a perfect reflection of you!
