Recipe: Cucumber-Mint Tequila Soda
With all of this outdoor planning (and sunshine, and warmth, and lush greenery everywhere) I’m getting excited for a refreshing cocktail on a patio.
And this one is at the top of my list!
When the weather is cold, I lean towards whiskey and red wine, or a Bailey’s hot water (SO good, trust me) because they are warming and perfect drinks on chilly days. In the summertime, however, my palate switches things up and I lean towards a crisp ginger cider (Lonetree for the win!), white wine, and tequila cocktails. I know I’m not the only one who has seasonal drink preferences!
All that being said, I’m really not much of a drinker (I will bring a six-pack of Nude sodas for a weekend getaway and drink 2 of them), but I appreciate an occasional glass of wine at dinner, or a refreshing cocktail on a hot summer day. This recipe is for the latter.
It’s refreshing, light, and packs a punch. The blend of cucumber, mint, and orange screams wide brim hats, bronze complexions, late evening sunsets. And if you’re feeling spicy, add a slice of jalapeno to the shaker to get an extra kick!
INGREDIENTS:
1.5oz tequila
0.5oz triple sec
0.25oz maple syrup (substitute with agave or simple syrup)
cucumber chunks
mint leaves (5-6 full leaves)
soda
garnish: orange rind, cucumber slice, and a mint sprig
*swap out the tequila for gin, if you prefer
DIRECTIONS:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in tequila and triple sec.
Add cucumber chunks and mint leaves. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
Strain over ice and top with soda water.
Garnish prep: Squeeze orange rind over drink to release oil and swipe around rim. Smack mint sprig against you hand to release oils. Slice a cucumber diagonally. Garnish with all 3!
Also delicious and refreshing with gin!
