e-Design for a Master Bedroom and Ensuite Refresh
Time for something new!
My lovely client got in touch with me to help put together a design plan for her master bedroom and ensuite. She has lived in the home for 15+ years and decided that it was time to refresh her space.
The architectural style of the house is a blend of alpine and craftsman, with the interior being a warm tone-on-tone throughout. However, her desired style for the bedroom re-design, while maintaining a lighter greige tone-on-tone, leaned more towards Hollywood glam. My client wanted the space to be calming and restorative, but also have a feeling of a luxury hotel suite or a New York penthouse.
My client wanted to manage the reno herself, but was looking for help selecting new paint, lighting, and furniture to go with the new carpet she’d already selected. She also wanted help including an electric fireplace in the design. Because she was taking on managing the renovation herself, this was the perfect situation for e-design/one-room design services. We discussed her design goals, reviewed her functional needs in each space, and reviewed some inspiration images she had pulled together. Below is the plan I put together for her bedroom:
The main goal with furniture selection was to source pieces that were suitable in scale for the room, adding grandeur and feeling substantial in the room.
I selected a tall, upholstered wingback bedframe with bachelor’s chest nightstands, as the wall expanse could handle larger-scale furniture. Kelly Wearstler sconces would flank the headboard, and the matching 5-petal ceiling light would replace the fan that was rarely used. The niche across from the bed would be partially filled in with an electric fireplace, and built-in shelving to the side to accommodate electronics, décor, and books.
The soft metallics, antiqued mirror, velvet upholstery, and textured wallcoverings add luxe layers to the room, creating an elegant, feminine, and luxurious overall design.
The design goals for the bedroom overflowed into the ensuite bathroom design, too. Large format marble-look porcelain tile on the floors and select walls, brushed nickel fixtures and accessories, detailed arch mirrors, and a chandelier centered above the standalone bathtub speaks to that elegance and luxury. The client loves the existing leaded windows above the tub location (they are a beautiful focal point), so the surrounding finishes and fixtures had to complement them.
Since the bathroom renovation was a re-and-re (remove and replace), the layout stayed the same with a selection of finishes, fixtures, and accessories:
