A Delicious, Must Try October-themed Snack
It’s an October-inspired trail mix, if you will! A little sweet, a little savoury, and tasty as heck.
I have always loved candy corn and enjoy it every year when it’s available in the bulk section at the grocery store.
And apparently, I’m not the only one, as I had to go to 4 grocery stores before I could find any. Thankfully, all of the other ingredients were available because I just wanted to get home and make the recipe!
What I love about this easy-to-make snack is that it hits both the sweet and savoury tastebuds. You get the crunchy, salty snacks, and then you get the sweet and chewy candy pieces. It really is the best of both worlds.
This snack mix is not only so addictive you won’t be able to stop munching on it, it’s also very on-theme for the season so it’s perfect for your little household horror movie night, or your small bubble gathering for pumpkin carving (be sure to pre-portion!) Just look at it! It’s got the Fall colour palette (thank you, Reese’s Pieces and Candy Corn) and Bugles à la witches’ fingers. I know this isn’t a whole foods healthy snack, but it’s a nice little treat to share and enjoy this month.
I originally had the Bugles as an optional ingredient, but when I tried the recipe without them, I knew something was missing. I really do think they are a staple in this recipe, not just because they’re witches’ fingers, but the flavour and crunch just round out the flavours and textures perfectly.
Now go out and buy all of your ingredients so you can make your own! We’re already halfway through the month, so don’t wait. The candy corn will be gone before you know it and we’ll be onto the next holiday (which has already started in some stores…)
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of dry-roasted peanuts
1 cup of Reese’s Pieces
1 cup of candy corn
1 cup of pretzels
1 cup of Chex
1 cup of Bugles
DIRECTIONS:
Pour all ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir them together. Do a taste test, because you can! Pour the mix into a container and make sure the ingredients are evenly dispersed (you don’t want all the pretzels at the top and all the candy at the bottom!) Then seal it tight to keep it fresh. I’m sure it will be eaten up before you would even need to start worrying, but just in case.
Pour yourself a little bowl and enjoy it’s sweet and savoury goodness while you watch Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, or one of those horror movies on Netflix.
Happy Halloween and happy snacking!
