DECEMBER FEELS:
The events and to-dos were written in the calendar with care…
I am finding my schedule is feeling more and more packed as we get closer to the end of the year. Is it because it’s the holidays and I’m squeezing in all of the visits with friends? Or because I am making all my medical benefits appointments before year-end? Or is it always this packed and it just feels more condensed because it’s the end of the year? Gosh, it’s probably all of the above. I don’t mind it, though! It keeps me busy which I like, because I find that if I have too much free time, I have a tendency to dawdle. But don’t get me wrong, I sure do enjoy some down time and am looking forward to shutting things down for a week (or two!) over the holidays.
Brendan and I will be at the cottage on the coast and I know it will be magical (fingers crossed it snows!). Our house was built in the 1930’s and is mainly heated by a wood stove, and the property is surrounded by tall cedars – it all really adds to the holiday feels! This will be our first Christmas there, which we’re excited about. I decorated it over the weekend so it’s all ready for us when we get there later this month. I plan to do some baking, enjoy the warmth of the fire, check out the holiday events in the community, and enjoy some quality time with B.
But, before we can shut things down for a week at Christmas, there is a lot that has to be done beforehand (and Brendan doesn’t get home from work until mid-month). I’ve got a few design projects on the go with some deadlines, lots of appointments and to-dos, Christmas shopping/making/crafting, holiday events to attend, and gifts to ship abroad before it gets too crazy. I guess my schedule really is busier than usual because of the extra holiday-related tasks to complete!

To wrap up this post, here is a list of things that I am currently loving/feeling inspired by:
a mug of warm milk before bed (how old am i?), layers and layers, candles that smell like Christmas trees, morning stretches, festive gatherings, the smell of fresh baked shortbread cookies, crisp morning runs, mulled wine and spiced cider, candy canes, staying warm in my grandma’s vintage wool coat, baking, baking, baking!
Happy Holidays!
Hello! Catherine here.
I’m a Vancouver-based interior designer and love all things creative! I’ll be sharing things that inspire me, posting design tips and DIY projects, chatting about all kinds of topics, and hopefully inspiring some people to make little changes at home to create an environment that is functional, beautiful, and a perfect reflection of you!
