MOOD board | April 2020

APRIL FEELS ARE IN THE AIR.

Spring has Sprung!

It has officially been over three weeks of self-isolation and boy has it ever been a roller coaster ride. Like many others, I’ve felt great and not so great, I’ve felt lost, but I’ve also had moments of enjoying the extra free time. I’ve been bored, watched way too much TV, done a lot of baking and cooking at home, and cut waaay back on spending (in part due to shops being closed, but also because of a dip in income).

When things hit the fan back in March, client renovation projects came to a halt, pipeline projects got put on pause, and our window replacement and small reno plans for our house on the coast were taken off the table for the foreseeable future. It all makes sense that, with financial instability and the covid-19 precautions, people are putting projects on hold while they navigate these uncertain times. It’s scary, but on the bright side, I’ve got some fun projects on the horizon when things get back to normal.

This shake up has brought to the forefront an opportunity for people to assess their current work/life situation, and I am definitely part of that group. What do I want to be doing, where am I going, and how am I going to get there? Do I push to create a more interactive online presence? Do I make a shift from self-employed to working for a firm? Or do I find ways to gain more clients, continue doing what I’m doing designing homes and learning as I go, and continue to grow my own business? I’m taking this opportunity to figure this all out.

On a lighter note, with this month’s mood board, I wanted to focus the lovely feelings of April – the blue skies, the fresh start of Spring, and the warmth in the air hinting at the summer months to come. The colour palette of blue and yellow is reflective of these feelings, but the colour psychology also ties back to the things that we need to focus on during this pandemic we are in the middle of: blue speaks to a sense of calmness and serenity, while yellow conveys a sense of happiness and optimism. Can we all agree that these feelings are extra important right now?

Here are each of the images that made it onto the board. Click for the sources.

And last but not least, here is a list of things that I am currently loving and/or feeling inspired by:

evergreens, delicate details, free-flowing lines, buds and blossoms, elaborate charcuterie boards, video conference calls with friends and family, hand-embroidered clothes, singing birds, nude nail polish, not wearing makeup, but also wearing makeup after not wearing it for a while, dried floral arrangements, fresh herbs.
