Spring Bucket List 2020: Quarantine Edition
The days are getting longer and summertime is already on our minds. How did that happen so fast?
It feels like it was just yesterday I was creating a holiday centrepiece out of yard trimmings, baking tasty seasonal treats, and running in the snow.
But so much has happened since December, January, and even early March. Timelines can seem so short in hindsight and so long looking forward. This is even more evident now that we’re in the middle of a pandemic with no definitive end in sight, and a recently “normal” life to look back on.
I think we can make the seemingly long tunnel ahead seem more bearable if we give ourselves tasks, lists of things to do to keep our minds, hands, and schedules as busy (or as relaxed) as possible. Like many of the life coaches and psychologists I’ve seen on the news, giving ourselves schedules and routines will help us while we spend most of our waking hours in quarantine, be it working from home, navigating unemployment, juggling young children, or a combination of the above. So I’ve been taking a page out of their books and writing down a daily schedule of items to tick off as I move through the day, and I’m finding it very helpful for my mental health.
In addition to these daily lists I’m making for myself, I think it would be good to keep up with my seasonal bucket list, but make a slight change to this one by making it my Spring Quarantine Bucket List. Since quarantine guidelines are in effect and will ultimately inform what activities I’m able (read: allowed) to do, it’s only fitting!
The last bucket list I put together was back at the end of December when the winter season was upon us and life was, what we like to call, normal. Having easily worked my way through my previous Fall list (which included the attempt at embroidery below), I decided to make my Winter list a bit longer – more than double, actually – and got to it. The list included both social and solo things to do, like baking, crafting, exercising, and nostalgic activities (living room pillow forts, anyone?) It’s nice to have a list of completed activities to look back on fondly.

If the idea of a bucket list is all too much, that’s totally fine, too. The most important thing right now is that we cut ourselves some slack, because we’re all responding to these unprecedented times so differently. If you’re feeling a bit lost and don’t know where to start, try giving yourself at least one specific task to complete each day – big or small – and anything additional is a bonus.
Stay healthy and happy,
